Small grants can open up big opportunities

The latest call for VSSN Small Grant applications is now open. The deadline for applications is 15 November 2024.

Through this annual call, VSSN funds projects which support and develop an idea or activity that will benefit voluntary sector studies in the UK. For example, the grants can be used to fund seminars, workshops, roundtables, webinars, or the production of a podcast, animation or short film.

Projects funded through previous rounds of the VSSN Small Grant Scheme have led to the production of a philanthropy podcast by and for women working in the giving and social impact sector; the establishment of a research network in Scotland focused on women and girls in cricket; discussions and explorations of the challenges of evaluation research; and the production of a documentary on the value of place leadership in small communities.

The funded projects can be a great way to bring together researchers, practitioners and/or policymakers to open-up a dialogue on a voluntary sector or volunteering-related issue. Often these dialogues can lead to fruitful longer-term collaborations and discussions that help to advance thinking and understanding in voluntary sector studies. Some projects funded through the VSSN Small Grant Scheme have also led to project partners securing further funding from other organisations enabling them to extend their work beyond the VSSN project.

To be eligible for funding, the lead applicant must be a VSSN member. Please take a look at the guidance notes and application form on the VSSN website for full eligibility criteria and details of how to apply VSSN Small Grants – VSSN
